Patta X Dana Lixenberg X Linda Van Deursen
After last year's Tupac Biggie book, Patta and eminent photographer Dana Lixenberg once again collaborate with graphic designer Linda van Deursen, releasing an exclusive piece with Lixenberg's most iconic portraits of Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G.
Dana Lixenberg is an Amsterdam born photographer and filmmaker, internationally recognised for her raw portrayals of individuals from various marginalised communities.
Lixenberg entered the scene with Imperial Courts — capturing life in the social housing projects in Watts, Los Angeles, visualising their stories in photo- and video portraits. Furthermore, Lixenberg has gained international recognition working for publications such as The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, Vibe and Newsweek.
Linda van Deursen is a graphic designer from Amsterdam. As one half of studio Mevis & Van Deursen, she is responsible for designing for institutions such as Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, The Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago and Venice Biennale of Architecture. Next to that Mevis & Van Deursen have worked on a variety of projects with artists, photographers, architects and fashion designers.
Getting back on the collaboration, the t-shirts are produced from a 100% cotton fabric with an all-over print. The print is an excerpt from Tupac Biggie, the visual history of Dana Lixenberg’s iconic photographs of the legendary artists Tupac and Biggie released by Patta in collaboration with Roma Publishing in 2018. These photographs, commissioned by VIBE magazine in 1993 and 1996, have been appropriated over the years by innumerable admirers around the world. Like the book, the shirt retraces the unforeseen trajectory and ubiquity of these images, worked out by Linda van Deursen.
The Patta X Dana Lixenberg T-Shirt will be available at GRIMM Gallery's New York location during the opening night of the Dana Lixenberg "American Images" exhibition on Sunday, January 12th, and in-store at Patta Amsterdam, Milan, London and online from Friday, January 17th.
