Patta X De Duivel
Opened in 1992, café De Duivel is a small bar in the center of Amsterdam that was the first to embrace Hip Hop culture, and one of those unique places that shaped our city’s character. In a time when Hip Hop was a tiny subculture and wearing sneakers or say being North-African would still get you barred from clubs, De Duivel welcomed people from all walks of life and all different ethnicities. The bar functioned as a breeding ground for talent, giving space to DJs like Edson, Vic Crezée fka Lil’ Vic, Turne and Wix. Many of Amsterdam's future graphic designers, creative directors, DJs, social workers, artists and entrepreneurs would meet and hang out in and in front of the bar on Reguliersdwarsstraat.
Throughout the years it’s seen its share of turmoil, with several closures and reopenings due to unfair stigmatisation by city officials, but owner Daniel Eeuwens has always given his blood, sweat and tears to keep this cultural icon alive against all odds. Now he needs your help. As a result of COVID-19 and the subsequent closure, De Duivel is facing financial difficulties.
Patta has worked with De Duivel on a T-shirt, proceeds of which will go to De Duivel. On Saturday June 6th, a selection of DJs will be streaming live from De Duivel during their regular opening hours, 20h-04h. Tune in and donate via Twitch, Instagram or Mixcloud.
The Patta x De Duivel T-shirt will be available online and in-store at Patta Amsterdam starting Saturday, June 6th.
