Idfa Meets Patta: Dope Is Death

IDFA is an international documentary film festival that takes place each November in Amsterdam. Every year, the festival presents a program of around 300 creative documentaries and interactive documentary projects, accompanied by performances, conversations and debates with filmmakers, protagonists and special guests. This year the festival is largely accessible online, allowing you to easily enjoy the latest documentary films and new media projects from your home.

IDFA brings the whole world to the Netherlands, this year all the way to your living room. Home viewing also means that you can watch screenings alone or with other film lovers for the price of only one ticket.

Online screenings run from November 18 to December 6 at set dates and times, with introductions from IDFA's programmers. Most films are followed by an IDFA Talk—an in-depth interview with the filmmaker—or a shorter Q&A where you can questions to the filmmaker or protagonist live online. Online screenings start at 14:00 on weekdays and 10:00 on weekends, and last until approximately 23:00. Due to distribution rights, all online screenings are only available to view within the Netherlands.

This year, on Saturday November 28th, Patta will join forces with IDFA for IDFA Meets, an event series programmed for a new generation of documentary film lovers, curated in collaboration with different partners throughout the city. On Saturday, November 28, a special on- and offline screening will be held of feature documentary Dope Is Death.

Dope Is Death recounts the unexpected connection between acupuncture, the Young Lords and the Black Panther movement. After the screening of the film, IDFA will pose the questions, how does self-care and pride in one’s community play a role in grassroots activism? And how can we understand the mechanisms of drug addiction and the role of mental health support as a tool to overcome oppression?

The panel consists of Lee Stuart (Patta), Mia Donovan (director of Dope Is Death), Mitchell Esajas (The Black Archives) and Samora Bergtop (Well Made Productions). They will talk about breaking boundaries to create value for your community.
