Shubeen returns to Skatecafe on June 6 for another annual gathering where the diaspora comes first. A three-room takeover dedicated to migrant sounds, global bass pressure and the communities that continue to shape nightlife from the margins outward.Created by Murkage Dave and Passion DEEZ, Shubeen is built for the people who grew up between cultures, across borders and inside scenes that never fully reflected them back. It’s a celebration of music as memory, migration and connection from soundsystem culture to club mutations, from leftfield classics to dancefloor chaos.Leading the charge are co-founders Murkage Dave & Passion DEEZ, reuniting after last year’s sold-out edition for a genre-hopping b2b spanning global club sounds, Hotep hip-hop, Dalston kebab-shop anthems and everything in between. Fresh off the release of his album Brut Thoughts and a headline show at Village Underground, Murkage Dave steps back into the booth alongside his club collaborator. Opening things up is Amsterdam-based Garnett, whose sets pull deeply from reggae, dub and dancehall traditions while pushing soundsystem culture into new territory.Flying in from Los Angeles, Bianca Oblivion arrives with the kind of high-pressure energy that has made her one of the most exciting selectors in global club music right now — packed with dubplates, razor-sharp blends and pure movement. Art Bar SEXYLAND is back! On April 22, we are hosting the 30th edition with Bonne Reijn at Cafe ‘t Mandje. Art Bar SEXYLAND is a café you go to on Wednesdays when you are stuck for ideas, to talk about art or show your work to a renowned artist or curator from the field who acts as your bartender for the evening. It gives emerging or established artists the chance to ask these artists questions in a safe environment without sitting in a Q&A-style setting, because the person is simply standing behind the bar. The motto is bad bartenders, great ideas, so the awkwardness is partly shared by all of us. From Jo-Lene Ong, Rein Wolfs, Rineke Dijkstra, Farida Sedoc, Renzo Martens, Zippora Elders, Wolfgang Tillmans, Kenneth Aidoo, to Iriée Zamblé and Raquel van Haver, every edition features a seasoned artist or curator serving you terribly poorly poured beers but incredibly good ideas.Bonne is a curator, fashion designer, and cultural entrepreneur, as well as the initiator of the Warmoes Biennial. His practice does not originate from the studio, but from the street, specifically the Warmoesstraat and its immediate surroundings, where he grew up and works. Rein’s work is closely connected to the question of how a neighborhood can redefine itself. Driven by a strong commitment to the Warmoesstraat, an area often reduced to tourism and clichés, he uses art as a means to present a multi-voiced and layered image.In this context, the Warmoes Biennial functions as a collective attempt to shift the dominant narrative and activate new forms of community. Through art, the biennale infiltrates the neighborhood; shops, snack bars, churches, and nightlife spots are temporarily transformed into exhibition spaces. Here, art does not appear as a destination, but as an intervention in everyday life.His role moves between curator, designer, and initiator: he creates not objects, but circumstances. In this context, art becomes a social process, a temporary infrastructure in which encounter, friction, and imagination converge.

Now he’s pulling up to Patta London for the official launch of his book, bringing his story and legacy with him.He’ll be in-store, meeting everyone and signing copies — so this is more than just a launch, it’s a rare chance to connect with someone who really built from the ground up.

Kahlil Joseph’s work BLKNWS is now on view at Patta Amsterdam, with new video imagery. BLKNWS (2018–2019) is an installation consisting of a two-channel video presented on large LED screens against a wall covered with photo wallpaper. The work is part of the Bonnefanten collection and is currently on view during the Warmoes Biennale.The installation questions the concept of “news” and critically examines the conventions of traditional news media, which derive their authority from claims of objectivity and reliability. In a media landscape increasingly shaped by disinformation and fake news, the status of truth and factuality is shifting.BLKNWS explores how we might reposition ourselves in relation to news, information, and representation in such a context and what role art can play in this. Alongside BLKNWS at the Warmoes Biennale, the work is also on view at Bonnefanten in Maastricht through August 30.

A Transatlantic Exhibition Centering Joy, Lineage, and the Creative Sovereignty of Women of Color at OSCAM (Open Space Contemporary Art Museum), AmsterdamMarch 6th to May 6th, 2026Eight women and non-binary artists from across the African diaspora, based in six countries, come together in Amsterdam to affirm joy, presence, and flourishing as radical and necessary acts.On March 6, 2026, OSCAM (Open Space Contemporary Art Museum) and ARTNOIR present Watering a Black Garden, a group exhibition that reimagines joy as a radical act of tending and becoming. Centering Black and Brown women as visionaries of abundance, the exhibition frames joy as an intentional and sustained practice of care within Black femme experiences.This landmark exhibition marks a powerful transatlantic collaboration rooted in shared commitments to equity, visibility, and cultural exchange. The exhibition features work by Maty Biayenda, Jeannette Ehlers, Ufuoma Essi, Shaniqwa Jarvis, Rachel Marsil, Aline Motta, Bernice Mulenga, and Nengi Omuku.Connecting New York and AmsterdamWith this collaboration, ARTNOIR makes its debut in the Netherlands, forging a cultural bridge between New York and Amsterdam. A female-majority, Black- and Brown-led platform, ARTNOIR supports artists of color through exhibitions, partnerships, and global storytelling.Together, OSCAM and ARTNOIR expand access, visibility, and opportunity within the contemporary art world, bringing underrepresented voices to the forefront. The partnership connects local audiences with global conversations while positioning Amsterdam-Zuidoost on the international cultural stage.Joy as a Sustained PracticeWatering a Black Garden takes inspiration from a seminal painting by Raymond Saunders, which bears the phrase “watering a black garden” written across a black canvas. The painting serves as both metaphor and call to action for the exhibition’s curators.The exhibition asks: What does it mean to nurture oneself, one’s community, and one’s creative lineage in a world shaped by histories of erasure and ongoing inequity?Through diverse artistic practices, “watering” becomes a metaphor for ongoing, intentional acts that foster flourishing. The garden emerges as a site where memory and lineage are nourished and alternative futures take root. Rather than functioning as a passive backdrop, the garden proposes a way of being—grounded, attentive, and expansive.The richness of the exhibition reflects the fullness of Black and Brown femme life, where radiance is essential rather than decorative. Across disciplines, the artists assert presence as both a personal and political act, resisting invisibility while opening space for healing, connection, and becoming.Marian Duff, Founding Director of OSCAM, shares:“This collaboration feels both natural and deeply meaningful.
